REMEMBER WHEN DURING THE LATE 1930'S, A FEW HARD
WORKING YOUNG MEN SHARED A CREATIVE DREAM TO CHANGE THE FACE OF THE EARLY
AUTOMOBILE. THEY BEGAN TAKING PARTS OF CARS FROM JUNKYARDS AND
PUTTING THEM TOGETHER. WITH AN INCREASED INTEREST IN THESE VEHICLES,
CAME FURTHER CHANGES. THESE MODIFICATIONS CAME TO INCLUDE FENDERS
MISSING, HOODS OPENED, CUSTOMIZED GRILLS, SWAPPED HEADLIGHTS, AND ENGINES
THAT NOW TOOK ON A NEW FOCUS OF SPEED AND POWER. THUS A NEW AMERICAN
HOBBY OF CUSTOMIZING WAS BORN AND THE CARS WERE SOON TO BE KNOWN AS HOT
RODS. WHAT STARTED AS A HOBBY YEARS AGO HAS LIVED
ON THROUGH THE MUSCLE CAR ERA OF THE 1960'S
AND EARLY 70'S, THE RISE OF THE LOWRIDER SUB-CULTURE, AND
THE DOMINATION OF THE SPORT COMPACT
SCENE. OUR CARS SAY SOMETHING ABOUT WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE
WANT TO BE REMEMBERED. AS THE NEXT
GENERATION FINDS ITS MODEL FOR SELF-EXPRESSION, THERE WILL
FOREVER BE PEOPLE CUSTOMIZING THEIR
VEHICLES. WITH CARS BECOMING MORE TECHNOLOGICAL
AND DIFFICULT TO WORK ON, THE MAIN INTEREST IN
THE ENGINES HAS SHIFTED FROM RACING AND
PERFORMANCE TO SHOW. VEHICLES CAN NOW BE MODIFIED
IN MANY WAYS: LOWERING SPRINGS, BODY KITS, SHAVED
DOOR HANDLES, LARGER RIMS, LOW PROFILE TIRES,
LAMBO STYLE DOORS, CARBON FIBER, WILD PAINT
SCHEMES, VINYL GRAPHICS, INSANE AUDIO / VIDEO
SYSTEMS, AND MUCH MORE. BUT FOR THOSE CRAVING MORE SPEED, YOU CAN
STILL UPGRADE TO A TURBOCHARGER, SUPERCHARGER,
OR HAVE FUN WITH A BOTTLE OF NOS... IT
IS NICE THAT SOME THINGS NEVER
CHANGE. |
